Bombardier GM says new Learjets on track to enter service in 2013

Friday, July 13th, 2012

Bombardier has shared further details on the ongoing development programs of its three new Learjet business aircraft.

The Learjet 85 aircraft program continues to progress towards first flight with four test aircraft in various stages of fabrication. The first complete pressure fuselage, including the nose and aft fuselage, is undergoing final validation before being shipped from Queretaro, Mexico, to Wichita, Kansas.

Work on the first Learjet 85 jet’s wing internal structure is complete in Queretaro and has been moved into the final assembly position for wing plank installation. The assembly of a second wing which will be part of the Static Structural Test Article is well underway.

“As we push farther along our development road map the teams across all of our Learjet facilities, and manufacturing plants, are truly excited as solid progress is being made towards the maiden flight of the Learjet 85 aircraft,” said Ralph Acs, Vice President and General Manager, Learjet, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “Our suppliers continue to keep up with our rigorous schedules as we work with our strategic partners across our aircraft programs. The final assembly line in Wichita is ready, and we are eager to assemble the first aircraft.”

The recently launched Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 aircraft program is progressing well and the first two flight test aircraft, a modified Learjet 40 XR jet and a modified Learjet 45 XR aircraft have already logged more than 135 flights, as the two are used to continue to develop the avionics that provide the core of the Learjet aircraft’s Vision Flight Deck.

“Assembly of the three remaining Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 flight test aircraft is on track, and with over 600 test hours logged we know that the Vision Flight Deck will truly offer the ultimate flight experience in these market segments,” added Acs.

The Learjet site expansion in Wichita is underway adding significant additional capability in preparation for the ramp up of the Learjet 85 jet. “It is a great feeling for our employees and our city of Wichita to see our site expansion underway.” said Acs.

Bombardier To Expand Wichita Learjet Site

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Wichita’s future as an aircraft manufacturing hub has appeared less than rosy of late, but the outlook took a turn for the better with news today that Bombardier plans further expansion of its Learjet facilities there. This morning, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback and Bombardier Business Aircraft president Steve Ridolfi announced the expansion of the company’s flight-test center in Wichita, in addition to establishing a center of excellence for engineering and information technology, adding new facilities for paint and production flight-testing and building a new aircraft delivery center in the self-appointed Air Capital of the World. The expansion, expected to create 450 jobs over the next seven to 10 years, is supported by an incentive offer worth $16 million from the state of Kansas, which will be added to the $600 million investment Bombardier is making to develop the Learjet 85 and to expand the Learjet facilities in Wichita. The Learjet 85, which will be assembled in Wichita, is expected to enter service next year. “Learjet has a rich and solid history in Kansas and we are committed to ensuring that it continues to grow and prosper along with new programs such as the Learjet 85,” said Ridolfi.

John Travolta Named Bombardier Brand Jets Ambassador

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Bombardier has announced that actor, film producer and pilot John Travolta is now a “brand ambassador” for the Canadian aircraft manufacturer’s Learjet, Challenger and Global jets. JetOptions charters all the Bombardier brands. Travolta, a vocal advocate for corporate aviation, recently added type ratings for the Challenger 601 (which he recently purchased) to the list of approximately a dozen airliners and business jet models that he is qualified to fly. According to Travolta, business aviation provides him with “flexibility, privacy, security, and most importantly, timesaving–meaning I have the ability to keep up with my busy schedule and have more time for my family, which is very important to me.”
